Records indicate that I am the seventh trumpeter to join How to Swim. Euan, Phil, Johnny, Alasdair and Chas, all fine wielders of the shiny horn, preceded my tenure and that of the first and greatest of all, Martin Docherty. He had a playing style all of his own - wild, unrestrained and animal-like, unencumbered by the western tuning system. When he blew his horn, it was as if everybody in the room knew he was playing trumpet just for them. And he was. A true gentleman, generous to a fault - witness his gift of a bass guitar to a stranger in Aberdeen. A sad loss to us, but Pete who followed is cool too and just about as unhinged. This is one of our last gigs before Pete's arrival. Gregor has recently been bringing back some of that spirit of trumpeting adventure with his new and expanding post horn collection.
